FC Goa goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte moves to I league side East Bengal on loan

I-League side East Bengal fights off competition from ISL clubs to sign Goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte from FC Goa on a loan deal

According to inside sources, there were many Indian Super League (ISL) clubs interested in Ralte’s service including Delhi Dynamos FC but it was East Bengal who closed the deal to bring in a new custodian for their upcoming season.  The loan deal is estimated to be worth around Rs. 55 lakhs yearly.

26 year old Lalthuammawia Ralte, popularly known as Mawia, came up through the ranks of I-League outfit Shillong Lajong, before signing for fellow I league side Bengaluru FC in 2014. He was a regular starter for the Southern Eagles in his debut year guiding the side to I League runner-up position.

However, Mawia later fell down the pecking order in the subsequent season, first to Amrinder Singh and then to Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, with starts limited to few AFC Cup qualifier games.

In 2018, he signed for fellow ISL side FC Goa in search of more playing time. However once again things didn’t work out well as Coach Sergio Lobero preferred young guns Naveen Kumar and Mohd. Nawaz over the experienced Mawia. He spent the latter half of last season at Kerala Blaster but struggle for playing time continued managing just two starts.

Despite limited opportunities, Mawia has always been a dependable goalkeeper, who would be up to the task. With the move to I league, this could just turn out to be the perfect timing for the custodian to prove his mettle.
