Mumbai Premier League: IOT crowned Champions in final day title decider against MYJ-GM

IOT edged past defending champions MYJ-GM in a lively encounter to lift the Mumbai Premier League title and making it record 5 promotion on 5 seasons

Neville D’Souza Ground, Mumbai: The air crackled with anticipation, as the stands pulsed with energy, roaring chants, rhythmic drum beats, and blaring horns filling the Neville D’Souza Ground.

This was it: the final, title-deciding clash of the Mumbai Premier League season between the record-chasing India On Track FC and the defending champions MYJ-GMSC. A sizeable and passionate crowd had descended, their energy mirroring the high stakes on the pitch.

From the whistle’s first blow, both sides lived up to the hype, displaying attacking intent and a fierce desire to seize control. The early exchanges were captivating, a back-and-forth battle for control of the game. However, it was India On Track FC who drew first blood, capitalizing on an attacking move. A shot on target from Adithyan struck the hand of MYJ-GMSC’s Umesh inside the penalty area, as the referee pointed to the spot. Arafat Ansari, cool and composed amidst the deafening noise, stepped up and clinically dispatched the penalty, sending the IOT faithful into raptures.

Mumbai Premier League title IOT MYJ-GM

Trailing by a goal, the defending champions MYJ-GMSC rallied, desperately seeking an equalizer to keep their title dreams alive. They pressed forward with urgency, creating a number of opportunities to get back into the game. Skipper Kamlesh came agonizingly close, his header narrowly sailing over the bar.

A significant moment for MYJ-GMSC came with the return of Himanshu Patil, who had been sidelined for three long months due to injury. His introduction as a substitute injected fresh impetus into their attack, and he almost made an immediate impact, weaving his way into the box. However, his well-struck shot was met by an outstanding save from IOT’s agile goalkeeper, Prathamesh Honavarkar, who would later be crowned the league’s best in his position.

Adding to MYJ-GMSC’s frustration, midfielder Kamran Ansari found himself with the ball bouncing invitingly in front of him inside the IOT box. Yet, under pressure, he couldn’t keep his shot on target, another golden opportunity slipping away.

Despite their relentless efforts, MYJ-GMSC couldn’t find the breakthrough they desperately craved. As the final whistle blew, the score remained 1-0 in favor of India On Track FC. The IOT faithfull in the stands erupted in joyous celebrations as their club secured all three points, leapfrogging the defending champions to clinch the Mumbai Premier League title in a dramatic final-day showdown.

This victory marks an incredible milestone for India On Track FC, securing their fifth promotion in as many years – proof to their consistent growth and ambition.
